Cacophany

Cacophany

Cacophony

With salty air whipping through his curls,
he jumps and laughs in the frothy waves.
He watches a crab skittering towards the water,
Chubby fingers touch the small rippled shell.
He looks up as if to ask if he can have it.
She smile and nod as he places in his bucket.

Waves thunder into the shoreline,
Washing away the castles built at low tide.
Gulls call out as they dive for an unseen meal.
Lovers stroll by, silently holding hands.
A grandfather shows a child how to cast a rod,
Upon the horizon, a schooner appears.

Once, a gun runner stole though the darkness.
Waiting for a chance to unload supplies.
In time, a lighthouse keeper trudged up the stairs,
Waiting to warn ships of the dangerous shoals.
The sky, lit with stars reflected upon the waves.
On the shores of each continent, worlds apart..

Under one sky, the ocean connects us,
We are of one spirit, one life, one dream.
There is a sameness to the ocean, a common bond.
Rocky cliffs or sun drenched beaches,
Burning sunlight or bone chilling winds.
The waves crash, thunder, in timeless cacophony.

On a side visit from Subhan Zein…looked in at the chocolate post – yum and got distracted by this poem. Through the free online community of http://www.writingourwayhome.com (are you there?) I found a prompt about food and tossed together this humorous bite that you might enjoy (No worries as to time…mind you – I think the ‘net’ is timeless. Cheers!
