The Last, Sweet Taste of “Mine”

DSCN2143My youngest son, I have endured so much,

loosing your brother, my parents, my health…

And all of that time, you have been here,

to give me the will to live, against all odds.

Now you are driving, dating,  and someone else

is the love of your life.  It hurts, but it is “life”.

The moments you come in and lay beside me,

let me rub your back or hair, whisper to me,

“I love you, mama.” and mean it, are so precious.

You envite me to go out with you and your friends,

You laugh with me, talk with me, tell me secrets.

I find myself wiping tears every day at loosing you-

as MY BABY, “MINE”. me-being number one in your life.

I’ve known in my heart that it would happen,

but not so soon, not so fast. My heart is broken,

yet I have to  try and savor those days we had-

Those last sweet tastes of “Mine”, that I cherish.

I can only hope you will always find room

in your life for me-stay close, share those hugs.

I have your siblings and they love me,

but you are my baby and have breathed

life into a mom who was dying of grief.

Those Last Sweet Taste of “Mine” will never leave me.

Enjoy every second of any child you may have,

because while growing goes slowly for them,

it races by for you.  You will always love them

in a way that is different from how they love you.

You would give them your life without thought,

Your last crumb of food or drink of water.

I love you my son, all of my children, with all I have.

My teen in heaven, you will always live in my heart.

My teen that is still here with me, messes and all-

To see you walk in the door, lay down your coat down

and crawl up to me with a hug and “How are you?”

Is still, will always be life its self to me, my child.

I dream of you, perhaps sometime, you might let me

sneak quietly into your dreams or even reality

and plant a flower or walk around the lake.with me.

We can never have too much love, and I will never

forget the love you gave that kept me alive.

Tender parting, but it is not for always…It is only a change that will create a strong man ~ although he once was your baby…I think every mother feels pangs of the loss of the child we remember, yet we would not want to impede progress in their path of life. We can only cling to the love that we share with them, still, even if it seems different. Real love never dies.

You are right, Sandra, I mean I knew it was coming-him going to college in the afternoons, meeting new people, getting his license, but it has happened earlier than with most of my kids and though he still includes me and loves my, and of course I want to see him grow up and see what a fine young man he his-I know what it is like to be robbed of that joy. It is just so hard and you know what its like here. Love ya, cuz.

I know that my remaining children were my reason to go on living after my son died. It’s hard because I didn’t want to burden them with that “honor.” It’s just that life is so precious after loss and I was far more worried about my other children – that something could happen to them. Years later, I’m relaxed and so excited to see them grow and fly. My dead son never grows older and I always wonder what he’d be like if he had lived. It’s beautiful how you express your love and I don’t see it as wanting to hold him back. You have so much emptiness around you and perhaps something is around the corner that will surprise you. Wishing you a better 2015, Brenda!

Judy:A pleasant surprise this year is badly needed. Letting my young son grow up so fast is not, but there is nothing i can do. Itseems I cannot keep my pain and hurt quiet like I used to before..i am in a place that it seems difficult for things to ever be really good again. I will wait and hope for your Pleqant Surprise! bebeee

Thank you so much, I enjoy all of your wisdom as well. There are so many more issues right now, that my son’s “way too quick” growing up” is even more difficult. Seems like it is always that way for me. Thanks foryour comment. beebeesworld
